REVIEW: Karl Reindler Racing, Trading Post Perth Challenge
Barbagallo Raceway, Perth WA
V8 Supercars Rnd#7-9 (April 29-May 1)
27 April, 2011
Fair Dinkum Sheds Racing's Karl Reindler makes his V8 Supercar debut at his home circuit this weekend for the three race Trading Post Perth Challenge. Karl missed the opportunity to compete in front of his home crowd last season after Barbagallo Raceway was dropped from the 2010 Supercar schedule, but he is more than relishing the opportunity to race his Brad Jones Racing Commodore on home soil.
"It's pretty special to have the opportunity to race in front of my home crowd," Karl admitted. "It was unfortunate that we missed out on coming to Perth last
year. For me it's very exciting to be back."
Karl's return to Barbagallo comes just weeks after campaigning a current-spec Porsche 997 GT3 Cup Car at the facility during a local event - an event he dominated, taking pole and winning every race.
"The Porsche drive a few weeks ago was a nice warm-up to the V8
Supercar round. Despite being very different to drive, it was great for my
confidence and gave me a chance to get some laps in around Barbagallo prior
to the big round. The circuit has changed a lot over the last few years,
with the surface degrading, and that time on track will definitely assist with
getting on top of things in practice."
Karl and the Fair Dinkum Sheds Brad Jones Racing crew are on somewhat of a roll at present having firmly entrenched themselves inside the Supercar top 15.
"My goals for 2011 were to be inside the top 15 on a regular basis. I'm happy with the race performance; we've hovered around that position for most of the year. My qualifying still needs some work, but it's definitely on the up," he said. "It's tough being the last team in pit lane for qualifying, you tend to get caught up amongst it all.
"We have a really strong race car at the moment, it looks after tyres well and is consistent - we're still working on a better setup for qualifying, and have some great ideas in play at the moment. Barbagallo is quite a low-grip surface, and relies a lot on a stable platform for braking. We have a practice plan in place and should be on top of it at the end of Friday."
The fourth event of the V8 Supercar Championship series also throws in a new format, with three 50 lap races scheduled across the weekend as opposed to the traditional two.. "The format is potentially better for myself, with three races. We still
have to qualify, so it's difficult to say."
