REVIEW: Karl Reindler Racing, V8 Supercar Championship Series
Skycity Triple Crown, Darwin, NT
V8 Supercars Rnd#12-13 (June 17-19)
16 June, 2011

Fair Dinkum Sheds Racing's Karl Reindler will put his V8 Supercar Championship series assault back on track this weekend during event six of the 2011 season, the Brad Jones Racing [BJR] driver competing in his third car in as many rounds after a huge effort by the team to prepare a new car for the Darwin event thanks to his dramatic globally televised race two incident at Perth.

"It's my third car in as many rounds," Karl said, "[and] the guys have put a huge effort in over the last month, and I'm pretty excited to jump into this new chassis and get our championship back on track.

"As drivers we all enjoy coming to Darwin - the whole town gets behind the event, there's great atmosphere and the weather's a nice change from the wintery conditions further south!

"We had a great opportunity to spend some time with the Navy during the week, including going out on the harbor in an Armidale class boat. It's a lot of fun, but a real eye opener as well - these guys work pretty hard to protect our coastlines, and you really get an appreciation seeing it first hand.

"On top of that, we spent some time at the RAAF base and saw the 'Top Gun' pilots take off on a training mission. There's a lot similarities between what we do as race drivers and what they do - the pressure, the physical forces, the reaction times and ability to make a quick decision. The jets are awesome, I'd love to go up in one!"

After a relatively lacklustre result at Winton, just weeks after his dramatic firey exit to the Perth round thanks to a hasty rebuild of Karl's 2010 mount, the BJR team allowed themselves plenty of time to prepare Karl's new steed for Darwin, the ex-Walkinshaw Racing [Coutlhard] VE Commodore now resplendent in the Fair Dinkum Sheds livery, and ready to put Karl back on the attack alongside team-mates Jason Bright [BOC] and Jason Bargwanna [Jana Living].

All three BJR cars were on the money at Perth, where Karl enjoyed his maiden top-ten result (seventh) in race one, before his dramatic exit. During race two, Bright (taking BJR's first ever round win) and Bargwanna (third) showed just how strong the BJR team had become, whilst at the following round at Winton Bright did it again with victory in race 11.

Karl will be hoping to regain the form that showed he was every bit as capable of getting to the front as his BJR team-mates, but never one to sit still, the West Australian has been continuing to work on his recovery from the burns he suffered at Perth as well as increasing his overall fitness by training with Australia's Olympic gold medalist, Steven Hooker.

"Training with [Steve] Hooker lately has proven to be beneficial in my recovery from the Perth accident, and more than that, I'm feeling fitter than ever as a result.

"Bring on the heat and extremes of Darwin, I can't wait!"
