The team at Howard Racing had an eventful few days down at the Clipsal Adelaide 500,
with Karl Reindler currently sitting in 6th position on the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series ladder after
his debut V8 round and Canto’s first pole position for the year.
Canto secured his position at the front of the grid with a time of 1 min 23.06, whilst Reindler
showed his skills in his first V8 Supercar qualifying session, nailing a time of 1 min 24.07sec
and settling him into 13th place on the qualifying ladder.
Reindler had a hugely successful debut V8 race, starting 13th in the grid, and gaining 5
places over the course of the race to finish in 8th position by the end of the 24 lap race one.
Race two saw Reindler move from 8th position, up to within the top five in just a few laps.
A spin by White (#28) caused him to swerve and undo the places made before moving
one better to 7th before the race was red flagged due to the tragic accident involving
Ashley Cooper.
Reindler’s impressive performance over the entire weekend landed him 6th on the 2008 Championship point table from the round.
“I know how unforgiving this place can be, so I am very pleased with the results of my first
round of V8s,” said Reindler.
“I am very happy with the weekend as a whole; with the team, the car and my
performance,” he said.
“Dean has been great to drive alongside; he is truly a wonderful team mate and I’m really
excited about the rest of the season with him”.
After Canto’s fine start to the meet, an unfortunate fuel pressure problem on the #37 BA
Falcon ended his race early.
“We started really well and the car was very strong. On lap 2 the fuel pressure problem
started, so I switched to reserve tank, which rectified the issue for about two and a half laps
before losing fuel pressure altogether,” said Canto.
“Obviously, with getting pole position, the car was great, my pace was great; it was just
that little problem in race one,” he said.
“It was disappointing, but sometimes you can’t help these things but just look to the next
one”.
Race two saw Canto make his way up from 24th to finish in 10th position when the race was
cut short.
